{"id":1925,"date":"2013-02-04T16:10:44","date_gmt":"2013-02-04T21:10:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.context.ca\/blog\/?p=1925"},"modified":"2013-02-04T16:10:44","modified_gmt":"2013-02-04T21:10:44","slug":"public-art-renderings-for-market-wharf-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.context.ca\/blog\/2013\/02\/04\/public-art-renderings-for-market-wharf-released\/","title":{"rendered":"Public Art Renderings For Market Wharf Released!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We just can&#8217;t keep it secret anymore&#8230;This is\u00a0Market\u00a0Wharf\u2019s future public artwork by Paul Raff Studio!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.context.ca\/blog\/wordpress-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/CXT_Market_Wharf_Render_1_Interior.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1926\" title=\" Market Wharf Render 1 Interior\" src=\"https:\/\/www.context.ca\/blog\/wordpress-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/CXT_Market_Wharf_Render_1_Interior.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"337\" \/><!--more--><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This public art was a global competition we ran for artists and architects and the winning design is courtesy of Paul Raff Studio.\u00a0 The art is located is a passage that runs within\u00a0Market\u00a0Wharf\u00a0from\u00a0Market Street\u00a0to\u00a0Jarvis Street.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.context.ca\/blog\/wordpress-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_9638.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1942\" title=\"IMG_9638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.context.ca\/blog\/wordpress-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_9638.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"353\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This passage is intended to transport pedestrians and cyclists through the block from street to street, and to house bicycle and automobile parking for the retail shops contained within\u00a0Market\u00a0Wharf.\u00a0 The goal for the artist is to animate and enhance the passage above what would typically be a utilitarian, dark space.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.context.ca\/blog\/wordpress-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/CXT_Market_Wharf_Render_2_Exterior.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1927\" title=\"Market Wharf Render 2 Exterior\" src=\"https:\/\/www.context.ca\/blog\/wordpress-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/CXT_Market_Wharf_Render_2_Exterior.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Art Desription from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paulraffstudio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Raff Studio<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Until about 90 years ago,\u00a0Lake\u00a0Ontario\u00a0rolled over the site of\u00a0Market\u00a0Wharf. At approximately the level of the ceiling of the new public passageway, the lake\u2019s surface glittered and heaved for those many millennia. A lake\u2019s surface fascinates with its universally appealing beauty. Imagine you could see the lake\u2019s surface frozen in static, sculptural form. Imagine you could walk underneath and experience it. This is\u00a0Market\u00a0Wharf\u2019s future public artwork by Paul Raff Studio.<\/p>\n<p>This piece is very complimentary to the art installation on Fork York boulevard, &#8220;Watertable&#8221;. This installation reflects the original shoreline of Lake Ontario depicted in lights simulating the tide rolling into the shore. It&#8217;s located but steps from\u00a0Library District.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.context.ca\/blog\/wordpress-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/watertable_full.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1929\" title=\"watertable_full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.context.ca\/blog\/wordpress-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/watertable_full.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"352\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So what do you think?
