But alas, we’re talking about Toronto’s favourite end-of-summer event, the Canadian National Exhibition or more lovingly referred to as the Ex! We figured we’re the best people to write about the food this year seeing as we survived the Cronut burger last summer. This year there’s no Cronuts but there’s a helluva lotta new food items that we’re itching to go sample tomorrow when the Ex opens!

We’re super excited that Toronto’s very own Fran’s is making its CNE debut with some mouth-watering, kinda-jaw-dropping items. We’re thinking of trying all the cool items on their menu but might need to space ’em out a bit. After all, spicy peanut butter Sriracha bites paired with a Thanksgiving waffle (cranberry stuffing waffle filled with roast turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, green onions and cranberries!) washed down with a brownies and cheesecake milk shake is a biiiit much for one-go.

Besides Fran’s crazy cool menu options, we’re even more excited for the Cronut’s distant relative, the crobar! Nope, not a tool to fix your car, but a chocolate bar baked into a croissant. Sounds amazing, right? We’ll take 10.

Next up will definitely be the nitrogen gelato which sounds like something someone made in a lab, but …gelato.

Obviously, the Ex is not the Ex without some deep-fried nonsense and this year is no different.
