Summer Fun at Fort York

We dished out the details on what’s happening at Downsview Park this summer,  which is within close proximity to our new project, The Yorkdale, but that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten all about Fort York, Library District’s neighbouring public space! In fact, Fort York is poppin’ this summer – and it’s no longer just a historical site.

Earlier this month, Fort York: Garrison Commons hosted the 2nd Annual Toronto Urban Roots Fest (TURF) and it was bigger and better than last year! TURF featured a great lineup including Jeff Tweedy and Beirut, which made for an even better vibe at the park. It was three days of awesome music that everyone enjoyed. And the best part? It was fun and not crazy. We’ve all heard about music festivals where people go a little (read: a lot) rowdy and make a mess of themselves, but not at TURF – we’re all responsible partiers!

Oh, and there was Field Trip earlier this summer, which began simply as a celebration of Toronto-based independent artist services company Arts & Crafts’ anniversary. Field Trip has become more than just a party – it’s a two-day long celebration that features a healthy mix of both Canadian and international talent and headliners. This year, attendees had a chance to rock out to Broken Social Scene, Hydra (AroarA, Feist and Snowblink) and many others. Field Trip is more than just a music festival, it’s about celebrating all that Toronto has to offer, including local Etsy pop-up shops, and some of Toronto’s best food trucks!

There’s more concerts planned for the rest of the summer, including TIME Festival: Grimes on Saturday, July 19th, and the Mad Decent Block Party in August. Then there’s foodie-heaven Taste of Toronto on July 24th to July 27th, featuring some of the world’s best chefs, Toronto’s top restaurants and over 50 exhibitors. Can you tell we’re excited?

Can’t wait to see what else comes to Fort York: Garrison Commons over the next little while!
