We’d like to start off 2013 by doing something a bit different. Yes we will still have construction updatesamusing and hopefully, informative posts about Toronto and it’s history. But our resolution was to inject a little more…Culture into this blog.

As you’re probably aware, we at Context are avid readers – not just the classics though, we’re pretty up to date on some current books as well! Recently we got our “geek” on to check out some recent sci-fi novels. Head past the jump for Context book reviews of The Postmortal By Drew Magary and Ready, Player One by Ernest Cline.

Toronto Apocalypse

So here we are, looks like the Mayans were right after all. Who had called that massive volcano to erupt and throw us out of orbit? Nobody? Wow. Oh well, what’s done is done and those of us alive are totally looking for something to pass the time. After all, we’re pretty sure we won’t have to go into work next week. So what is there to do?

Library District

Library District is going up pretty quickly. It seems only a few weeks ago we were on the 8th floor, now we’re pouring the 11th! Have a look at what’s going on around the site this month!

Market Wharf

We’ve been making regular visits to Market Wharf for the past couple of months, but this time it’s different — It’s personal. Wait, you’re saying this isn’t a movie trailer? Oh, okay we’ll tone it down a bit.

Anyway, we’re really excited to show you how much we’ve done to get everything ready for occupancy in the new year. Heck, we’ve even removed the giant crane a few weeks ago! That’s big, as in “we’ll be done soon” big.  Exciting stuff right?

Anyway, come with us on a fantastical journey through Market Wharf as it’s going through it’s final phases of construction:

It’s been quite some time since we last visited Library District . We mean, it’s not like we’re avoiding it, we’ve just been…you know, busy with other stuff. We’ve been meaning to call though, we promise.

We have another model suite to show you this week! Here we have the Market Wharf 1 Bedroom + den water suite on the 6th floor, right next to the amenities facility.

When we first enter the unit we’re greeted with a large living/ dining area. The TV is  right behind that plant thing, we swear.

At long last, the big reveal!  We stopped in at Market Wharf to take a look at the recently completed model suites on the 6th floor. This unit features granite countertops, hardwood floors, ultra-modern appliances and TONS of natural light. Follow past the jump for more pictures of this ultra-modern slice of downtown life.

Every month we take a look at the history of Library District‘s most famous neighbour; Fort York. This month in an interview with the foremost expert regarding the fort, Dr. Carl Benn, Dean of History at Ryerson University, our discussion will focus around the years immediately after the war and leading up to Canada’s independence. These years were influential in the development of Toronto and Canada as we know it exists today.

Looks like it’s time to check in on progress at our Library District development. As you can see from the picture above,  workers are well under way on pouring the third floor of the amenities building, and it looks like the library is coming along nicely as well. It’s only a matter of time until we get to see the tower rise!  Check out some more great photos below.
